Accepting Applications: Pavlis Honors College

The Pavlis Honors College is now accepting applications for Spring 2018. Students are eligible to apply to join the Learning Community if they have 2 or more years remaining on campus. PHC’s Learning Community offers 6 distinct pathways on which students may build their honors program: Global Leadership, Peace Corps Prep, Research Scholars, Enhanced Enterprise Experience (E),New Venture, and Custom Pathway. Each of these pathways provides a framework of support, exceptional resources and a community of scholars for students interested in challenging themselves, doing more and making a difference. If you know of a student who may be interested in joining the Pavlis Honors College, please encourage them to apply. If you would like to request more information regarding our pathways, email us at honors@mtu.edu.

Applications will be accepted through Sunday, October 22nd. However, students who apply early will be given preference. Space is limited.

Scholarship: West Michigan Air & Waste Management

On behalf of the West Michigan Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association, I am pleased to announce our chapter is now accepting applications for scholarships to be awarded in January 2018.  The WM-AWMA plans to award up to four individual scholarships of $2,000.00 to juniors, seniors and graduate students in qualifying fields of study.  Specific eligibility requirements are described in the attached announcement.

The deadline for submitting applications is midnight on Sunday, November 26, 2017.

Scholarship – WTS Michigan

WTS is an international organization dedicated to the advancement of women in the transportation industry.  The WTS Foundation (WTSF) was formed in 2009 to provide scholarships to support the next generation of transportation professionals in our mission.

The local WTS Michigan Chapter is supporting three scholarships for deserving women in Michigan all of which have been doubled in amount again this year!  Two undergraduate scholarships at $1,000 each and one graduate scholarship at $2,000.  The women that win at the local level are automatically entered at the International level for their chance at scholarships totaling $5,000 and $10,000 respectively.

The applications are due on November 13th, 2017.  The applications are attached.

Hourly Research Assistants for Traffic Video Annotation

Hourly Research Assistants for Traffic Video Annotation The high-performance computing laboratory for Sustainable Intelligent Transportation Systems (SITSLab) in the Department Civil and Environmental Engineering is looking for hourly research assistants to help a research project on using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to monitor traffic flow dynamics. The hourly research assistants will work with a Ph.D. student on using a semi-automatic traffic annotation tool, iATTS (Interactive Annotation Tool for Transportation Surveillance), developed at SITS-Lab to identify and annotate individual vehicle trajectories in UAV videos. The work will be conducted in our research laboratory, Dow 842. The hourly pay rate will be $10/hour.

To qualify for this position you should be familiar with the following computer operations:

  1. Google Earth (Google Maps) software
  2. Windows Paint
  3. Familiar with video play software such as windows media player
  4. Quick learning ability to operate a Windows GUI – iATTS

The successful candidates must be able to show excellent communication skills, demonstrated attention to detail, and a good work ethic. You have to pass a training test in order to do this work.
