NEEDED: CEE Student Success Center Coaches!

Have you considered being a civil/environmental learning center coach? Being a coach provides an opportunity to help other students, looks good on a resume, and is a great way to brush up on skills needed for the FE! Only a 2 hour per week time commitment is required, and coaches receive a $200 scholarship at the end of the semester.

The Civil & Environmental Engineering SSC is looking for coaches for the Spring 2018 semester.

Please submit the application by January 5 so the coaches can be in place before spring semester begins and can be open during the first week of class!

CEE Senior Design Colloquium (Dec 12 & 14)

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department is pleased to invite the University community to attend the fall 2017 senior design team presentations.  This semester students have undertaken a wide range of interesting projects to fulfill the Department’s design project requirement.  Refreshments will be served.  (CEE Colloquium Poster)

Scholarship: MCA of Chicago

The Mechanical Contractors Association of Chicago is pleased to announce the release of the application for its annual MCA of Chicago Scholarship Awards!
Each year, MCA of Chicago and several of its member contractors sponsor scholarship programs for enrolled students working toward an undergraduate or associate’s degree in Industrial Technology, Construction Management, Engineering and other disciplines related to the Mechanical Construction and Service industry. This year, there are a total of 11 scholarships being awarded for a combined total of $23,000.
Selection Process:
  • Qualified students must demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a career in mechanical contracting and submit a completed application (attached) no later than December 22, 2017
  • By submitting their application, students verify they will be present at the Scholarship Awards Ceremony on January 16, 2018 in Oak Brook, IL. Students must be present to receive an award.
  • Applicants must submit a PDF of the completed application and a current resume to:

Who Is Eligible?

CNNF FY18 Centralized Temp Hiring Outreach

Newly added: HU 3295 Level III Advanced Spanish

Please note that the Humanities Department has recently added a section of HU 3295, Level III Advanced Spanish for spring, MWF 10-11 am, taught by Leyre Alegre-Figuero.

This course can replace UN 1025 Global Issues and counts for the Spanish minors. Students with AP Spanish or other previous Spanish experience who place into this course can earn 9 placement credits if they pass this class with a B or higher.
This course has the pre-req of HU 3293 or placement of 631 or higher. It is a repeatable topics course, so even if students already have credit for HU 3295 from a previous semester, they can take it again as there will be new content. If you have students who would like to take the Spanish placement exam (a free, online exam) have them contact me or the Humanities Department office.

Job Posting: Paid Student Leadership Opportunity with Admissions

Have you enjoyed your Michigan Tech experience? Maybe you’ve built a 30 foot snow statue for Winter Carnival, held a leadership role in a campus organization related to your interests, or worked on developing new technologies through one of our Enterprise teams. The Undergraduate Admissions Office is hiring students with various campus experiences and a passion for Michigan Tech to serve as Student Telecounselors and Campus Tour Guides. Both roles provide you with an opportunity to share the Michigan Tech student experience and help prospective students determine if Michigan Tech is the right fit for them.
Student Telecounselors:  Calling takes place Monday through Thursday from 6 – 9 p.m. in the spring, on the third floor of Rehki Hall. You must work a minimum of two 3-hour shifts each week.

Campus Tour Guides: Campus tours are offered Monday through Friday with shifts available from 8 – 9 a.m.8 – 10 a.m.10 a.m. – 1 p.m.11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.12 – 1 p.m., and 2 – 4 p.m.

To apply, you must be an undergraduate student who has completed at least two semesters at Michigan Tech by the time you begin work and have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher.  You must be enrolled in courses for the semester for which you are applying, with the exception of summer.
