Job Posting: Hurley & Stewart (surveying)

Hurley & Stewart is seeking a highly motivated individual to work on our energetic team as a Graduate Land Surveyor. This full time, hourly position requires a hard-working, organized individual capable of working in the field and in the office. While training will be provided, prior land surveying experience is preferred. Job tasks include construction staking, boundary and topographic survey field work, CAD drafting, and client interaction.

Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in surveying or be within a year of graduation. Applicant must either possess a professional surveyor license or be willing to work toward obtaining one while gaining qualifying experience. Applicant must also have basic AutoCAD knowledge, a valid driver’s license, and “satisfactory results” on a motor vehicle record check.

Hurley & Stewart is an established civil engineering, surveying and landscape architecture consulting firm headquartered in Kalamazoo, Michigan. DeKalb County Government’s Surveyor’s Office is recruiting for a full-time First Deputy Surveyor for its office located in Auburn, Indiana. This position performs a variety of professional land surveying activities with an emphasis on office work with some supplemental field time as well, both under the direction of a licensed Land Surveyor/Professional Engineer. This position provides technical and professional review of survey maps, survey documents and improvement plans submitted to the County. It also provides information and assistance to the public in person, by telephone or in the field. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficiency and experience with computer software and tools related to surveying activities including but not limited to AutoCAD/ArcMap, Adobe Acrobat, GPS and general surveying equipment, and the ability to interpret record data to plot and evaluate the accuracy of survey maps and legal descriptions.

The Position:

The Field Engineer/Estimator reports directly to the Chief Estimator and will be responsible for reviewing bid requirements, securing subcontractor and vendor pricing, and preparing estimates for hard rock, soft ground tunnels, cast-in-place structures, micro-tunneling, and sewer and water projects.  Approximately 15-20% travel is required to attend pre-bid meetings and support active projects.  This is an ideal position for an experienced Field Engineer looking to transition into an office based Estimating position.

Geomatics Virtual Event – NGA (3/16)

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) will be hosting a virtual recruiting event on March 16. They employ students from many disciplines, including but not limited to: geophysics, earth sciences, geology, geomatics, math, astronomy, physics, surveying and applied sciences more generally. Note that a high percentage of our interns go on to work full time at NGA.

The virtual presentation will focus on geoscience-related employment and internship opportunities at NGA. The event will be an hour and a half where they spend time introducing NGA and our office of Geomatics and the divisions within i.e., GNSS, Photogrammetry, Geosciences and Geodetic Surveys. Employees from the NGA Office of Geomatics will speak generally about what they do, to help students better gauge their interest in our agency, as well as give application tips to apply for employment.
