Michigan Tech now offers UDOIT as the new tool for helping instructors identify and address accessibility issues in Canvas courses. UDOIT replaces Ally, the accessibility checking tool previously available in Canvas.
UDOIT is built directly into Canvas and can scan course content for common accessibility concerns, including issues with headings, links, images, tables, and certain uploaded documents. It provides instructors with an overall course accessibility score as well as a detailed summary of potential concerns and guidance for making improvements.
UDOIT can help instructors identify issues that may otherwise be difficult to notice as they develop new course materials and improve existing content. But remember that automated accessibility checkers cannot evaluate everything. Instructor review and judgment remain essential parts of creating accessible course materials.
Instructors can access UDOIT from the course navigation menu in Canvas. The first time you open the tool, you may be asked to authorize its connection to your course. You can then initiate a scan and review the results.

We encourage instructors to become familiar with UDOIT and begin using it as part of their regular course preparation and review process. Addressing accessibility as materials are created or revised is generally easier than attempting to remediate an entire course at once.
The Center for Faculty Excellence will also offer introductory UDOIT workshops in September. Additional workshop details and registration information will be shared with instructors soon.
