The Van Pelt and Opie Library (VPOL) and the Portage Lake District Library (PLDL) are excited to partner for a second year and bring the Summer Reading Program to Michigan Tech! This year’s theme is Color Our World, which the libraries are using to invite you to embark on a journey of art and creativity. Visit the VPOL any time between now and August 23rd to pick up your reading log, or digitally download it here. Once you are halfway through (350 minutes of reading), stop at the VPOL for one of our custom tote bags and head to the lovely PLDL in downtown Houghton to claim $5 in farmers market bucks. Claim another prize when you finish!
The Center for Teaching and Learning will relocate its Rekhi Hall Testing Center to the third floor of the Library in Fall 2025. Construction of the space is anticipated to take place during August.
Visitors to the third floor will notice that the Map Collection and portions of the Main Collection have been moved to create additional valuable study space. The Map Collection in particular has been undergoing a refresh over the last year so that it better reflects local research needs. The library’s collections are regularly evaluated and shifted based on criteria outlined in the library’s Collection Development Policy.
During construction, library users will still have access to the third floor. However, it will not function as an entirely silent study area during this time. Instead, the library’s Garden Level will be designated as a silent study area during construction.
