Below, please take a moment to get to know Samuel as he introduces himself in his own words. Welcome, Samuel!
Hello!
My name is Samuel Ora, and I am happy to greet you as the archives intern for Spring Semester, 2022. I hail from Midland, Michigan, where things are far more flat and slightly less cold. The transition from the plains to the hills promises to be fraught with excitement. I received my BS in Computer Science from Central Michigan University, and have just finished attending the University of Kentucky online for a Master’s in Library and Information Science. After a period of searching for a field of interest, I began to learn about the wonders of archive work and I knew that I had found something for which my natural inclinations were suited. The work of preserving and transmitting the past coupled with the beauty and ruggedness of the northern U.P. captivated my interest at once: a great adventure as well as a great opportunity. I was nearly bowled over when I heard that I was engaged to be an intern, a feeling that still recurs once in a while.
I hold an interest in anything ancient or venerable (a fitting attitude for an aspiring archivist), and so I am rarely without an old book, generally in the subject of history, literature, or religion. The phrase “lifelong learning” is apt to describe the philosophy of life I pursue: I’m always looking to know more and come to a greater understanding, though I can’t say I always live up to that task. You can find me on the campus of St. Al’s or, naturally, in the depths of the archives.
