This club will include people in the industry. This is a great opportunity to not only improve your public presentation skill, but also develop some network connections in the industry. Please click on the link, register for the Toastmasters meeting and join the organizational meeting. I will be participating in the meeting. Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to build our portion of the club at Michigan Tech.

Good morning and happy New Year to all!

During the SCAN event held in October of 2020 there was a discussion about what students could do to better prepare themselves for their role in the construction industry. One topic that was raised repeatedly was to enhance their communication. To assist students, and others throughout the industry, AGC Michigan will be forming one or more Toastmasters clubs.  Membership in an AGC Michigan Toastmasters club is open to AGC members and student chapter members at Michigan Universities.

Toastmastersis a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Membership in  a club helps improve public speaking skills, build leadership skills, maximize your potential, enjoy personal growth; work on networking in a small and supportive environment; practice writing speeches and presenting in a group setting; gain a competitive advantage in the workplace; build self-confidence and self-awareness. In addition, joining an AGC Michigan Toastmasters club will allow you the opportunity to networking with industry professionals at all levels within their organizations.

Toastmaster’s has pathways of study for members that include Dynamic Leadership; Effective Coaching; Engaging Humor; Innovative Planning; Leadership Development; Motivational Strategies; Persuasive Influence; Presentation Mastery; Strategic Relationships; Team Collaboration; and Visionary Communication. Each pathways walks the participant through an online learning deck, plus activities to deliver speeches. Most take a minimum of 6 months to complete. The first pathway is free with membership.

Please join us on Friday, January 15 at 11:30 a.m. for a free introduction to Toastmasters, a demo meeting, and a Q&A session. Find out if this might be the key to reaching your highest potential in the construction industry.

Click here  for additional information and to register. The registration deadline is Thursday, January 14.

Also, please remember that AGC Michigan Scholarship applications are due by January 31, 2021. To date we have received 9 applications. Since we typically award 10 scholarships annually, you have a pretty  good chance of receiving a scholarship!

Please feel free to share this information with other who might be interested in Toastmasters or a scholarship.

Thank you,

Viki
