Job Posting: Construction Internship Summer 2018 | Next Step Ministries

My name is Marissa Martinie; I serve as the Construction Internship Coordinator at Next Step Ministries. Next Step Ministries is a 501c3 nonprofit committed to help high school students grow closer to Christ through life-changing one-week mission trips, while being a part of long term community development in the communities we serve.  We offer college students paid internship positions in construction, youth ministry, worship, and missional leadership.
A Next Step construction internship could be a great fit for your students, as we have hired students studying a variety of degrees such as: construction, engineering, architecture, and design for these positions over the years. This is a valuable, hands-on opportunity to lead community-focused building projects for hundreds of volunteers throughout nine week-long mission trips. Your students would be directly involved in each aspect of construction, including: on-site leadership, planning, estimating, scheduling, budgeting, and management. You may have heard of this internship opportunity before as we have reached out to other departments at Michigan Technological University.  We wanted to reach out to you in the Civil Engineering department as well, as we feel this internship is great opportunity for your students.  We have hired many civil engineering students in the past, and all perform well in this internship. The positions available are Construction Manager and Construction Team Member.  Next Step still has positions available to fill 15 Construction Teams for Summer 2018.

If your students are interested they can visit our website, apply using this link, or email me for more information.   See our construction flyer.  I appreciate your help in spreading the word of this incredible internship opportunity!

Job Posting: Yosemite National Park (Internship)

The Yosemite National Park Pathways Engineering Internship for 2018 is going to be announced on www.usajobs.gov.  The application process is very competitive, and it typically closes once we have 75 applicants, which can happen on the first day!
The duties of position are typically suitable and applicable to Civil Engineering students.   The internships are typically filled by Junior-level students.  Seniors and Graduate Students who will be continuing their education in 2018/2019 (after the internship) are also eligible.  Sophomores may also qualify, depending on the number of credits they have completed, and if they have previous related work experience that they document correctly on their resume (see note 7).
If students are interested in a summer or co-op type engineering position at Yosemite, they should do the following:
1) Create an account/profile at www.usajobs.gov.
2) Become familiar with the usajobs.gov website, and how it works.
3) Complete a resume in usajobs, and upload your most current transcripts (unofficial is fine), so that they are ready to go as soon as the announcement is posted.
4) Create an e-mail alert to notify you when jobs match both of the following keywords: 0899 and YOSEMITE.  (0899 is the job series for Student Intern Engineers.)
5) Maybe search a couple of times a day, so that you get to the announcement as soon as it opens.
6) Follow the directions in the announcement, to the letter!
7) You must include months, years, and hours per week worked, on your resume, to receive credit for your work (and/or volunteer) experience. Part‐time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate  exact hours per week or is listed as “varies”.
8) For the questions where you have to rate your experience in different areas, be honest, but not humble.  Rate yourself against other students, not the world at large.
