HuskyLEAD

The final HuskyLEAD of the semester is Tuesday, April 2 at 6:00 PM in MUB Peninsula Room.  Presenters Cody Kangas and Kim D’Augustino will be presenting on “Recruiting and Retaining Active Members.”  Cody and Kim work closely with Mind Trekkers, which has been a widely successful student organization which boasts rather large membership numbers.

March’s 7 Dimensions of Wellness Events

Social Wellness is the ability to maintain healthy relationships communicate effectively, respect yourself and others, and be part of a community.  Stay socially well this month by partaking in making pasties with friends, snowshoeing the great outdoors, and supporting the community by volunteering at the Copper Country Humane Society.

Student Leadership Awards

Student Leadership Awards 2013 Now Open for Nominations

At Michigan Tech we are blessed with students that are crazy smart.  As faculty and staff we partner with these students to inspire community, scholarship, possibilities, accountability, and tenacity. Now is the time to recognize these students for their commitment, enthusiasm, and leadership. On behalf of the University, Student Affairs is seeking nominations for the President’s Award for Leadership, Vice President for Student Affairs Service Award, and various other student leadership awards. The recipient of each award will be honored at the spring student leadership awards which will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013.

The nomination process is simple and actually, quite easy. All awards and information about each can be found on the web at www.sa.mtu.edu/awards/ . Once you find the award, simply click on the award header/description and submit the nomination.

Nominations for the President’s Award for Leadership and the Vice President for Student Affairs Award for Service need to be submitted by Friday, March 8, 2013, at 5:00 p.m.  Nominations for all other Student Leadership Awards need to be submitted by Noon on Friday, March 22, 2013.

Please take a minute to nominate a student or colleague today. Each nomination will enter you into a drawing for one of four $50 gift certificates from the Campus Bookstore.

HuskyLEAD Session – Balancing Time, Classes, and Your Organization

The next HuskyLEAD session will be held on February 12, in MUB Ballroom B at 6:00 PM.   Participants attending this session will learn techniques to help them examine their priorities.  Leaders will be able to identify and prioritize their commitments while learning more about various time and stress management techniques.

Financing and Budgeting for Your Organization, January 29 at 6:00 PM in the MUB Commons.  Participants attending this session will not only learn about the opportunities available for student organizations to receive funding but will also focus on the ideas of collaboration and goal-setting to further their organization desires.

Blood Drive- Michigan Tech vs. Northern Michigan

The 13th Annual Blood Drive will be held on January 30 from 10:30 AM – 4:30 PM in the MUB Ballroom B.  No pre-registration required.   Must be at least 17 years old, 110 lbs, no recent piercings or tattoos, have eaten within 2 hours of donating, and have a picture ID.  Refreshments will be given to all donors.

This event is brought to you by Wellness and in part by your Experience Tech fee.

Late Night Programming – Friday, January 25

Late Night Programming – Comedian, Pete Lee

Come out for some comedy Friday, January 25 at 10:00PM in the MUB Ballroom.  Pete mixes cutting punchlines with an underdog perspective to absolutely roast himself on stage. His likable style and self-deprecating humor have made him one of the hottest acts today. He made his television debut on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend.  He’s come a long way since then, being placed 12 out of the top 100 comedians in Comedy Central’s Standup Showdown. Pete has also proved that his humor transcends demographic boundaries by winning Country Music Television’s Next Big Comic.

Tech Trails to be Staffed on the Weekends

The Michigan Tech Athletics and Recreation Department and the Michigan Tech Outdoor Adventure Program have joined forces to improve user experiences at the University’s trail system. A ticket booth at the trails will be staffed during weekends to allow users to purchase passes and rent equipment on site.

The booth will be located at the main trail head near the waxing shed and open Fridays 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Daily and annual trail passes along with ski and snowshoe rentals will be available at the booth. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.

All trail users must have their pass displayed and may be delayed until verified as a student or paid user.

The Tech Trails offer more than 24 kilometers of six and nine meter trail for year-round use, including seven which are lighted. The trails connect with the Nara trail system. In addition to Nordic skiing and snowshoeing, there are dedicated trails for skijoring and snow biking.
