Dr. Summit Shah has founded the Summit Shah Scholarship in reacting to the rising tuition costs. He has been a tireless advocate of access to higher education and has founded the Summit Shah Scholarship to ensure that deserving students from all parts of the economic spectrum can reach their academic goals. We would like to offer a $1000 scholarship offer for your students at to be applied to their higher learning education.

Who Is Eligible?

Eligibility parameters are as follows:

High school students graduating this calendar year and have been accepted into a college, university, trade school, or design school are eligible to apply
Students currently enrolled in a college, university, trade school, or design school
All majors and areas of studies are encouraged to apply

Essay Question:

The lessons we learn from failure are usually fundamental to later successes. To be considered for the scholarship, please submit a short essay (500 words or less) recounting an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn?

CNNF FY18 Centralized Temp Hiring Outreach

Newly added: HU 3295 Level III Advanced Spanish

Please note that the Humanities Department has recently added a section of HU 3295, Level III Advanced Spanish for spring, MWF 10-11 am, taught by Leyre Alegre-Figuero.

This course can replace UN 1025 Global Issues and counts for the Spanish minors. Students with AP Spanish or other previous Spanish experience who place into this course can earn 9 placement credits if they pass this class with a B or higher.

This course has the pre-req of HU 3293 or placement of 631 or higher. It is a repeatable topics course, so even if students already have credit for HU 3295 from a previous semester, they can take it again as there will be new content. If you have students who would like to take the Spanish placement exam (a free, online exam) have them contact me or the Humanities Department office.

Job Posting: Paid Student Leadership Opportunity with Admissions

Have you enjoyed your Michigan Tech experience? Maybe you’ve built a 30 foot snow statue for Winter Carnival, held a leadership role in a campus organization related to your interests, or worked on developing new technologies through one of our Enterprise teams. The Undergraduate Admissions Office is hiring students with various campus experiences and a passion for Michigan Tech to serve as Student Telecounselors and Campus Tour Guides. Both roles provide you with an opportunity to share the Michigan Tech student experience and help prospective students determine if Michigan Tech is the right fit for them.

Student Telecounselors: Calling takes place Monday through Thursday from 6 – 9 p.m. in the spring, on the third floor of Rehki Hall. You must work a minimum of two 3-hour shifts each week.

Campus Tour Guides: Campus tours are offered Monday through Friday with shifts available from 8 – 9 a.m., 8 – 10 a.m., 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., 12 – 1 p.m., and 2 – 4 p.m.

To apply, you must be an undergraduate student who has completed at least two semesters at Michigan Tech by the time you begin work and have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. You must be enrolled in courses for the semester for which you are applying, with the exception of summer.

Scholarship: MN Erosion Control 2018 Scholarship

MECA Memorial Scholarship Applications are now being accepted! Please forward to students that may qualify!

QUALIFICATIONS:
To be eligible for the MECA Scholarship, one must be a student with intent to complete an engineering or science degree. They should also demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career involving stormwater management or erosion and sediment control. They must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above and be a Minnesota resident. The college they attend does not have to be located within the state of Minnesota. Both new college students and those currently enrolled are encouraged to apply. MECA awards one $500 scholarship per year.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Fill out the Scholarship Application form (go to www.mnerosion.org to download the form). Submit an essay. Student needs to write an essay stating why they feel they deserve to receive the MECA Scholarship. Please indicate objectives, and information about educational, career, and personal goals. Demonstrate talent by writing about any special interests or special circumstances that the selection committee may consider. Include information on evidence of leadership and community service. Essay format: One page, 11 point font size with 1” margins. Use name and essay name as the title.

Return the application and essay by mail or email (digital copy is preferred) by DECEMBER 1, 2017 to:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION Once awarded, proof of school registration for the upcoming semester is required before release of the scholarship check. The scholarship winner will be invited to attend the Minnesota Erosion Control Association’s annual conference in January.

I’m writing to let you know about an opportunity for engineering undergraduate and Master’s students to attend a Women in Engineering Event at North Carolina State University. The “We are W.E. (Women in Engineering) Program” is a networking and recruiting event within Civil Engineering Department at North Carolina State University to encourage the presence of women in civil engineering research and academics. As part of this program, we are happy to support travel for undergraduate and Master’s students who are interested in civil engineering research to visit NCSU on March 1-2, 2018. The We are W.E. Program will include a research workshop, career-focused seminar and panel, poster symposium, and meetings with professors.
