Several Summer Youth engineering programs are held at Michigan Tech Engineering Dpartments. The Engineering Scholars Program (ESP) and Women in Engineering (WIE) are weeklong competitive scholarship programs to introduce engineering careers in areas like mechanical, computer, environmental, electrical, chemical, biomedical, civil, geological, and materials.

Ride the Waves with GM (General Motors) invites Copper Country youth in Grades 4-12 to join scientists from Michigan Tech’s Great Lakes Research Center in the exploration of Lake Superior, Portage Waterway and Torch Lake.
Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula is known as a place of natural beauty with a fascinating mining history. Join local expert Bill Rose to learn how to read this landscape and how it came to be the way it is today. The Copper Country has a strong geoheritage comprised of five major events in Earth’s history. Rose has designed several two-day field trips that address each of these specific themes. Participants can look forward to covering lots of ground and being outside all the time with travel by boat, van and short walks.

2013 Lake Superior Water Festival at Great Lakes Research Center on Thursday, October 17
High school students from the five western UP counties will spend today at Michigan Tech’s Great Lakes Research Center, learning about the Great Lakes, water research and careers they might consider in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The Water Festival is sponsored by the Western UP Center for Science, Mathematics and Environmental Education, based at Michigan Tech.
About 30 grade 6-8 students and chaperones from Menominee Catholic Central School will spend two days at Michigan Tech, September 16-17) immersing themselves in science & technology. This is the eighth year they’ve visited Michigan Tech to kick off their new school year, explains science teacher Frank Best , who leads the trip.
Forty middle and high school girls and their parents attended Michigan’s Tech’s first Parent-Daughter Engineering Exploration Day on February 23.
