New Course: BE4930/5930 Engineering and Applied Conservation

This is a new course offered Spring 2019 taught by a faculty who is heavily involved to solve engineering problems associated with whale conservation.  For CEE students, this can be used as a professional elective.

BE4930/5930 – Engineering and Applied Conservation: This course will introduce students to current and future conservation practices. Students will learn how to assess and address conservation problems through the development of engineering technology. The hope is to expose students campus wide to the applications and opportunities available to applied engineering in conservation.

Credits: 3.0

UG Research: SURF Applications Now Open

Applications for 2019 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURFs) are now open. Fellowship recipients will spend the summer on an individual research project under the guidance of a Michigan Tech faculty mentor. SURFs are open to all Tech undergraduates who have at least one semester remaining after the summer term. Awards are up to $4,000. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on January 25, 2019.

A workshop on writing effective SURF proposals is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11 in Fisher 132.

Global Remediation Technologies of Traverse City, Michigan is seeking full-time professionals in the engineering and science disciplines to support a range of environmental investigation and remediation projects. Successful candidates shall have a degree in environmental/geological engineering or MS level geology/hydrogeology. Prior field sampling experience is ideal as the successful candidate will support remedial investigations; frequently performing monitor well sampling, soil lithology core classification and sampling, soil gas well installation and indoor air/soil-gas well sampling.  In the office the successful candidate will manage large laboratory analysis sample data sets and compare data to regulatory exposure risk criteria, while supporting remediation feasibility studies, remedial design and implementation under experienced project managers. Event: AGC – Student Contractor Awareness Night (Nov. 1st)

It is time to sign up for AGC SCAN!

SCAN stands for Student Contractor Awareness Night. This years event will be held in Marquette on November 1st. We will leave at noon and visit three job sites in the Marquette area and then have dinner with some contractors from around the region. We will leave at noon and return at 10:30 PM.

To sign up, go to the student organization page and sign up as a member of Husky Construction and Design and then contact me, Lynn Artman, to sign up for the event. If you do not sign up as a member of Husky Construction, the trip will cost $20. This is a great event and I would encourage everyone to attend if at all possible.

Info Session: Supermileage System Enterprise

SUPERMILEAGE SYSTEM ENTERPRISE INFO SESSION:
Supermileage System Enterprise will be putting on an info session this Friday (October 26th) in Fisher 129 from 6-7 pm. Free pizza and pop will be provided. Feel free to bring friends and all that might be interested! We are mainly mechanical engineers and electrical engineers (need more though), but are open to all majors who are interested.
We will be discussing our projects for the year, goals determined to reach, and current progress of this semester. Don’t be afraid to bring some questions for us to answer. Hope to see you there.
