Green Campus Enterprise – Final Project Presentations

Join Green Campus Enterprise for our end of the semester final presentations to see what we’ve all been working on! This is a great opportunity to learn more about Enterprise!

THURSDAY APRIL 12th, DOW 875, 5-6pm

GLRC Retrofit– exploring the feasibility of using the water of Portage Lake as a heat sink for the GLRC year round with the greatest application in the warmer months

Solar Thermal– evaluating the feasibility of installing a solar thermal collector at Michigan Tech. The solar collector would be used to preheat water for hot water usage on campus.

Building Efficiency– investigating how energy is used throughout the DOW and M & M buildings

Tiny House Community– assessing the feasibility of a tiny house community on Michigan Tech property

Campus Culture-overall goal of the Campus Culture Team is to move the culture of Michigan Tech’s campus in the direction of increased sustainability

Wind Power– research the feasibility of wind power at Michigan Tech. The current proposal is to install a wind turbine on top of Mont Ripley to reduce or eliminate electricity costs of the ski hill

Clean Air-Cool Planet- gathers and analyzes data in order to calculate the greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory of Michigan Technological University

Green Campus Enterprise is an organization of students working to make the Michigan Tech campus more sustainable through both low and high profile projects. We are collaborating with University personnel on many of our projects and gaining professional experience and leadership skills.

Position Information: 
Are you crazy smart?  Maybe you’ve built a 30 foot snow statue for Winter Carnival or worked on developing new technologies through one of our Enterprise teams.  If you’ve enjoyed your time at Michigan Tech, the Undergraduate Admissions Office wants you to apply!  The Undergraduate Admissions Office is hiring students with a passion for Michigan Tech to serve as Campus Tour Guides.  This role provides you with an opportunity to share the Michigan Tech student experience and help prospective students determine if Michigan Tech is the right fit for them.

Campus tours are offered Monday through Friday with shifts available from 8:00-10:00 a.m.10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

To apply, you must be an undergraduate student who has completed at least two semesters at Michigan Tech and have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher and be in good academic and social standing.

If you want to make a difference for prospective Michigan Tech students, please complete the attached application!  Completed applications, including a summer course schedule (if taking classes), must be submitted by Wednesday, April 18.

Undergraduate Research – Summer and Fall!

A couple of undergraduate research assistants are needed in my research group for summer and fall semester.  The hourly support will be provided with NSF REU support (US citizenship). The research will be mainly involved with the polymer concrete and fiber-reinforced high-performance concrete design and test. These polymer-based fast-curing materials can repair and protect the current structure components. The high-performance concrete will be tested for  structure applications. Good research attitude and responsibility are highly desired. The GPA close to or above 3.0 is desired.
I also like to find a couple of undergraduate students  (US citizenship) who  is interested in working with US army research lab (in Urbana Illinois) on 3D printing of concrete and concrete structures.  The summer internship (stipends) can be provided by US Army Corps of Engineers. For your information, please check the attached slides on 3D printing work.
