ARC Lifeguard Certification Course

Earn your American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification in this 3-day intensive training course located at the Michigan Tech SDC Pool. The certification includes Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications and all training materials. All participants must be 15 years of age or older by the first date of the course (documentation required). Required water skills include the ability to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, and complete a timed event in which participants retrieve a 10 pound brick from a depth of 7-10 feet and swim 20 yards with the object. Online training prerequisite must be completed by the first day of classroom instruction. Instructor will contact class participants with online course information and directions. Class size is limited to 10 participants.

Days/Times: August 7 – 2pm-6pm, August 8 – 8am-6pm, August 9 – 8am-5pm

Cost: $110 per participant

ARC Lifeguard Review Course

Need to get re-certified? Sign up now for the Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Renewal Course. This 2-day course includes Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED re-certification. The instructor will contact the class with additional course information and directions. Participants must have a Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification that has expired no more than 30 days prior to the final day of the course. Class size is limited to 10 participants. CPR mask and whistle not included. Supply purchase is available through the ticket office. 

Days/Times: August 13 – 8am-1pm, August 14 – 8am-1pm

Cost: $55 per participant

    HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech Student Development Complex, Gates Tennis Center, and Systems Control Nordic Waxing Center at the Recreation Trails are closed to student-athletes, students, and the public due to concerns over the COVID-19 health situation. University Images is also closed.

    These closures are in compliance with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order originally issued on Monday, March 23 and extended on April 9. The closures will continue through at least April 30.

    The Tech Trails will remain open to those with memberships. Under the University’s Stay at Home Protocol, Tech Trails users must maintain social distancing of at least six feet.

    UP Health System – Portage Rehab and Sports Medicine and Pharmacy will continue operating under regular hours.

    Michigan Tech SDC Remains Open

    HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech Student Development Complex and Gates Tennis Center continue to remain open for Michigan Tech students, SDC members, and action pass holders.

    Due to the University’s COVID-19 Visitor Protocol, released March 13, 2020, Michigan Tech will temporarily restrict new daily pass purchases through April 17, 2020. Because the COVID-19 health situation is developing rapidly, this time period is subject to change. The Visitor Protocol is intended to protect the health and safety of all. We thank you for your continued understanding and support.

    A current Michigan Tech Student ID, a valid SDC membership card, or action pass is required to gain access to the SDC.
