The Tech Trails

We have made the decision to suspend grooming with the Bombardier due to failing conditions and our need to get moving on and hopefully finish much-needed repairs on it before we start on our many summer projects. However, we will continue to groom using drags and wheelers on the Upper Trails following our Spring schedule of grooming for the weekends and Tuesdays. We will continue grooming for as long as possible and stop when conditions dictate. Please refer to our trails conditions page for daily updates on our trails open and closures.

SDC Building Information

Beginning Monday, March 14, the SDC will resume regular building hours. For each facility’s hours, please visit the Facilities homepage.

Please excuse our ongoing construction in the locker room area. The women’s soccer locker room is in the process of being renovated. A temporary wall was built to create a landing area between access into locker room 109, 107, and the women’s soccer locker room. This area will allow workers to continue to access the soccer locker room and patrons to access the women’s locker rooms. Please use the second entrance into the horseshoe hallway, closest to locker room 110/109/109F/109G/107, to access these locker rooms. A portion of the back of the horseshoe hallway is blocked off for construction. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

FacilitieInformation

The SDC’s spring break building schedule has been announced. There will be no HuskiesFit Group Exercise Classes during spring break.

The boilers that heat Gates Tennis Center are no longer functioning. Our facilities team has been working hard to keep our building warm for the time being with emergency space heaters. Starting Tuesday, February 22nd, we will have two large temporary units heating our building until a new boiler is delivered and installed.  It will cause a little extra noise than we are used to at Gates.

Court 4 will be out of commission for the time being where the units will be housed.  It can still be used for pickleball with a day in advance reservation, giving time to prepare the space.  As a reminder, the ball machine can now be used on any court because we have court divider nets.  There are outlets on the wall behind each of the courts.

Unfortunately, this also means that we will not have any hot water at Gates Tennis Center until we have a new boiler installed.  If you have a need for the showers, we can issue you access to the locker rooms at the SDC.

We apologize for the inconvenience over the course of the next couple of weeks.  Please feel free to reach out to Kristin Yep (kvyep@mtu.edu) with any questions or concerns you may have.

Indoor Triathlon

Registration for the Michigan Tech Rec Indoor Triathlon opens on March 2! There is no fee for participation, but participants must be an SDC member or MTU student in order to register.

Session 3 of the OAP Evening Snowshoe Hikes will be on Tuesday, March 1 at McLain State Park. Sign up today!
