As we prepare for Winter Carnival, we thought it timely to share an image of the upcoming Archives display to be featured at the Alumni Social + Winter Carnival Contests Exhibit on Saturday, February 10. Glimpses of Snow and Stage: Winter Carnival Contests through the Years will feature rich images and small displays of Michigan Tech memorabilia. Skits, the beard competition, human sled dog race, human bowling, snow statues, and many other traditions will delight one and all! If you have a Winter Carnival memory to share, please let us know in the comments.
Absolutely thrilled to hear about the Glimpses of Snow and Stage: Winter Carnival Contests through the Years exhibit! Michigan Tech holds a special place in my heart, and Winter Carnival was always a highlight. The memories of skits, the beard competition, and the creative snow statues flood back. Can’t wait to revisit those cherished moments through the Alumni Social + Winter Carnival Contests Exhibit. Kudos to the organizers for bringing this nostalgic journey to life! ❄️

My memories of Winter carnival go way back to building our fraternity’s statue in front of old Hubbell Hall on some very cold nights in January. Thanks to a pint of Southern comfort and a warmup at the Union I survived with all of my fingers intact but some very cold ears. I was a Blue Key member back in the 60s, responsible for getting the trophies and organizing our snowball dance. Julie London came to town one year and she was an amazing singer. I live in warm, cozy Florida now but still cheer for our winning snow statues and the Huskies of course. Fun times back then and good memorie
