Junior Huskies Summer Swim - Swimming training for ages 6-17 years old

Come make a splash this summer in Junior Huskies Summer Swim! This program provides additional attention and competitive guidance to proficient swimmers ages 6-17 who are looking to improve their swimming skills and fitness levels. Participants must be able to swim unassisted for at least 25 yards, tread water for at least 1 minute and have swimming knowledge and ability equivalent to Level 5 of the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program or higher.

3 sessions

  • June 14-25 (registration closes June 12)
  • July 5-16 (registration closes July 3)
  • July 19-30 (registration closes July 17

Registration opens May 1.

    Adult Huskies Summer Swim - Swimming Training for Ages 18+

    Adult Huskies Summer Swim provides additional attention and competitive guidance to swimmers ages 18 and older who are looking to improve their swimming skills and fitness levels in a group setting. Each session is programmed with warm-up, and variations of a workout for the beginner, intermediate and advanced swimmer. Participants will be provided coaching and guidance to meet their individual swimming goals!

    2-week session meets Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 5-5:50pm

    Summer Session Dates:

    • June 14-25 (registration closes June 12)
    • July 5-16 (registration closes July 3)
    • July 19-30 (registration closes July 17)

    Cost $75 per participant (discount available for current SDC members!)

    Registration opens May 1.

    The COVID-19 Visitor Symptom Tracking Form is required to be completed by all participants before every class session. Masks are required throughout the building except while swimming or showering. Space will be provided for personal items on the pool deck. Class size is limited and based on social distancing.

    OAP Silent Gear Auction Saturday April 17 10am-1pm MacInnes Ice Arena Concourse

    The Annual OAP Silent Gear Auction is back! Join the OAP Saturday, April 17, 10am-1pm on the MacInnes Ice Arena Concourse for your chance to bid on some sweet used outdoor gear! No preregistration needed. Just sign in when you show up and start bidding.

    All bids are final. Winning bidders are expected to pick up item(s) from 2-4pm, Saturday, April 17.

    Persons wishing to sell their gently used outdoor recreation gear can drop off gear at the OAP April 14-16, during the following times:

    • Wednesday, April 14, 2-7pm
    • Thursday, April 15, 2-7pm
    • Friday, April 16, 10am-5pm

There are no provisions for medical intolerance reasons or medical waivers. Please limit personal items in the auction area to a minimum. Event capacity is limited and based on social distancing.

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course May 7-9

    American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

    Earn your American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification in this 3-day intensive training course located at the Michigan Tech SDC Pool. The certification includes Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications and all training materials. All participants must be 15 years of age or older by the first date of the course (documentation required). Required water skills include the ability to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, and complete a timed event in which participants retrieve a 10 pound brick from a depth of 7-10 feet and swim 20 yards with the object. Online training prerequisites must be completed by the first day of classroom instruction. The instructor will contact class participants with online course information and directions.

    Class size is limited. Registration opens April 2, closes April 30.

    Student Development Complex (SDC), Gates Tennis Center & Tech Trails

    The Student Development Complex (SDC) is a 235,000 square-foot complex that provides a wide range of recreation and fitness options for students, faculty, staff and the community. There are multiple positions that have a profound impact on the success of the SDC. These team positions include: 

    • Office Assistant (SDC Manager’s Office, Central Ticket Office, Gates Tennis Center)
    • Desk Attendant (Multipurpose Room, Fitness Center)
    • Laundry Attendant
    • Custodial Support and Event set up
    • Skate Guard

    Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP)

    The Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP) provides the campus and the community with opportunities to take advantage of outdoor recreation in the area.  We provide outdoor equipment rentals, trips and clinics, manage the Indoor Climbing Wall and High and Low Ropes Course, assist with maintaining the Disc Golf Course and more.. Summer positions vary from 15-35 hours/week and require a week of training May 3-7, 2021. Positions within the OAP include:

    • Rental Desk Employee
    • Trip Leader/Climbing Wall/Challenge Course Facilitator
    • Special Events
    • Bike Mechanic/Guide
    • Paddle Sports Leader(canoe/kayak/paddleboard)

    Aquatics

    The SDC Swimming Pool comprises two pools, a lap tank and dive tank.  We provide swimming lessons, lifeguard certification courses, open swim and lap swim, group rentals and P.E. Courses. Positions within Aquatics include:

    • Lifeguard
    • Pool Deck Attendant
    • Swim Lesson Instructor
