Summer Open Swim Hours & Public Skating at the SDC

Summer Open Swim Hours

The SDC Swimming Pool is a great place to perfect your favorite swim stroke or just splash around & cool off. Single day passes & group rates are available.

Summer open swim hours are:

  • Monday-Friday, 6:00-9:00am, 12:00-1:30pm and 4:30-8:00pm
  • Saturday & Sunday, 12:00-5:00pm

Adult Lap Swim: Monday-Friday, 1:30-2:30pm

Summer Public Skating

The John MacInnes Student Ice Arena offers public skating sessions twice weekly this summer. It is free to SDC members and Michigan Tech students (present ID for entry). It is also included in Friday and Sunday SDC day passes, or you can pay $3/person for skating only.

Summer public skating hours are:

  • Sundays, 5:00-5:50pm
  • Fridays, 2:00-2:50pm

Football, skating, soccer, tennis and volleyball camps are just around the corner! There is still time to register!

Football

Step off the sidelines and into the game with Michigan Tech’s renowned football camps. We offer Little Huskies for grades 3-5 and Development for grades 6-8.

Skating

Master one of the most artful and athletic ice sports. Featuring a figure skating program for all ages and a learn-to-skate camp for grades K-5, we have opportunities for everyone.

Soccer

Michigan Tech’s Soccer Skills Camp is designed to teach fundamental playing skills to younger players. Open to grades K-8.

Tennis

The Michigan Tech Tennis camp at Gates Tennis Center offers a balance of instruction, competition, and tactical skill building to take your game to the next level.

Volleyball

Develop your serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, and digging skills with tips and pointers from the Michigan Tech volleyball coaching staff and team players. Choose from Little Huskies for grades 2-6, All Skills Grades 7-9 or All Skills Grades 10-12.

Upcoming Summer Community Program Classes

In addition to several classes that run all summer long, Michigan Tech Community Programs announces upcoming classes beginning soon that will run through the end of the summer.

Adult Classes

Belly Dance for Fitness – Shake, shimmy and roll in this energetic cabaret-style belly dance class offered Thursdays, 5:15-6:05 p.m., in the SDC Studio July 9 – August 20.

Spin Express – Rev it up and burn some calories fast in this 40 minute power spin class offered Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:10-12:50 p.m., in the SDC Studio July 6 – August 19.

Enrollment in Adult Community Program classes is rolling and walk-in’s are always welcome!

Youth Classes

Aikido (Age 5 & up) – A great way for children and teens to gain confidence, practice focus and concentration, and learn non-violent strategies for self-defense. Classes begin July 10 and meet Fridays at 6:30 p.m. in the SDC Studio.

Creative Dance (Ages 3-6) – Students develop basic dance skills as they interact with their peers in this fun and engaging class! Class meets Saturdays, 11:00-11:45 a.m. July 11 – August 22 in the SDC Studio.

Ballet/Jazz (Age 7 & up) – This intro class covers the basics of each dance form including footwork, arm-work and vocabulary. The final session is a unique workshop to explore dance theater and performance technique. 7 and 8 year olds meet Tuesdays, 4:15-5:05 p.m. in the SDC Studio July 7 – August 18. Ages 9 and up meet Thursdays, 4:15-5:05 pm. in the SDC Studio July 9 – August 20.

Swimming (Age 6 months & up) – There is still room in the 3rd and 4th sessions of Swimming! Classes meet Monday-Friday for a two-week period in the SDC Pool. Third session – July 20-31, fourth session – August 3-14.

Ready. Set. Summer! with Michigan Tech Recreation. Open to the community, make plans for summer fun in the pool, ice arena, multipurpose room and trails.

Looking for way to beat the heat or the rainy day blues? Open hours are available for public swimming, skating, indoor track running, basketball and volleyball. Single day passes and group rates are available. You can also take advantage of the great trail system for a family ride or aerobic adventure.

Spin into Summer!

Summer2015SpinWhether you’re a novice rider or a serious cyclist, Spinning has you covered! You make your spin workout is as intense as you want it to be.

This summer, we offer 2 great spin class options – Power Pedal and Spin Express. Power Pedal runs Tuesday/Thursday, 7-7:50 a.m., and Wednesday, 9-9:50 a.m. Spin Express is great if you’re short on time! The class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:10-12:50 p.m.

Spin class punch cards are available online or at the SDC ticket office and can be used toward either class. Daily passes are also available.

Ice Arena Opens Next Weekend, Skating Programs Start

Circle4-whiteThe ice will be back in the MacInnes Ice Arena beginning June 5! To celebrate, several ice programs will be starting as well.

Hockey Programs

Drop-in hockey for mites through high school will be offered June 5-7. Other programs such as Total Skills & Power Skating and Hockey FUNdamentals are also open for registration.

Public Skating

Public Skating will begin Sunday, June 7, and continue throughout the summer. Free to SDC members and Michigan Tech students, included in select Friday and Sunday daily pass purchases or $3 at the SDC Ticket Office for skating only.

Skating Programs

Skating Programs such as Learn to Skate and Skate Up are open for registration.

Strength & Conditioning Program for Middle & High School Athletes

Strength & Conditioning Program

Michigan Tech Recreation will be offering a Strength & Conditioning Program for Middle and High School Athletes this summer. The program is open to girls and boys entering grades 6-12 in Fall 2015 and will include speed and agility training, strength training and conditioning training.

Two six-week sessions will be offered, June 8 – July 17 and July 20 – August 28. Participants meet three times/week for an 1 1/2 hour training session. Class size is limited. Cost per session is $175 or $335 for both. Eligible Michigan Tech employees may use TechFit dollars.
