Fall HuskiesFit Programs Begin Next Week!

​Change up your fitness routine or get started with a new one – get HuskiesFit!

HuskiesFit Programs offers a wide variety of classes to suit your needs and interest. They’re also a great way to introduce your Little Husky to a lifetime of health and wellness – and they’re fun too! Check out these great classes starting as early as next week!

Adult Programs
Adult Skating Workshop – For the beginner through intermediate adult ice skater.

African Dance – A combination of rigorous steps and routines from across the African continent accompanied by contemporary Afro-pop beats.

Belly Dance – Shake, shimmy and roll in this energetic cabaret-style belly dance class.

RAD – Master self-defense tactics and safety techniques in this comprehensive course designed specifically for women.

Adult Dance Mix – Get in the groove and try a dance class! Workshops on ballet, jazz, belly dance and more will be offered throughout the semester. See web site for detailed schedule.

Youth Programs
Tumbling – An introductory class focusing on floor tricks, strength, building muscle and flexibility.

Dance – Grab a pair of ballet slippers or jazz shoes and get ready to dance! Currently offered: Ballet, Creative Movement and Jazz.

Aikido – A great way for children and teens to gain confidence, practice focus and concentration, and learn non-violent strategies for self-defense.

Swimming – It’s never to early – or to late – to learn to swim! Classes are available for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Group swim classes are available in six levels, ranging from introductory, fundamental, and stroke development to refinement and fitness swimming.

Skating – Lessons that teach the fundamentals by age group, preschool (3-5 years) and basic (ages 6 and up).

Registration is now open for the fall session. Employees may use their TechFit benefit for HuskiesFit Programs. SDC membership discounts and sibling discounts are also available.

HuskiesFit Programs – $2 Classes begin August 31

Fall Semester HuskiesFit Programs and Youth Classes

Sample fall fitness programs and youth classes for only $2 each, August 31 – September 5. All classes are held at the Student Development Complex (SDC).

Ready to change up your fitness routine or get started with a new one? Fitness programs include Yoga, Conditioning, Indoor Cycling, Zumba, PiYo and many more! Youth classes include Dance, Aikido, Tumbling and many more! 

Fall Semester Programming Begins September 8

View the program guide for full details on class offerings, schedules and rates.Fitness enrollment is rolling and walk-ins are always welcome. Please note that youth classes run on sessions and usually have preregistration deadlines.

Tech Wellness Dollars 

Employees can use their $150 TechFit benefit for themselves and $100 for either a spouse or dependent for HuskiesFit class punch cards and full session registration.

SDC Building Hours Effective Sunday, August 23

Circle4-whiteSDC building hours for the academic year will begin Sunday, August 23 and remain in effect until April 30, 2016. Reduced  hours will be posted during University holidays and spring break. The SDC will be open Labor Day, September 7.

New this fall, public skating will start at 6:30 p.m. on Sundays and will continue to be free for SDC members and Michigan Tech students. All others can skate with the purchase of a day pass or $3 for skating only.

Summer Open Swim Hours & Public Skating at the SDC

Summer Open Swim Hours

The SDC Swimming Pool is a great place to perfect your favorite swim stroke or just splash around & cool off. Single day passes & group rates are available.

Summer open swim hours are:

  • Monday-Friday, 6:00-9:00am, 12:00-1:30pm and 4:30-8:00pm
  • Saturday & Sunday, 12:00-5:00pm

Adult Lap Swim: Monday-Friday, 1:30-2:30pm

Summer Public Skating

The John MacInnes Student Ice Arena offers public skating sessions twice weekly this summer. It is free to SDC members and Michigan Tech students (present ID for entry). It is also included in Friday and Sunday SDC day passes, or you can pay $3/person for skating only.

Summer public skating hours are:

  • Sundays, 5:00-5:50pm
  • Fridays, 2:00-2:50pm

Football, skating, soccer, tennis and volleyball camps are just around the corner! There is still time to register!

Football

Step off the sidelines and into the game with Michigan Tech’s renowned football camps. We offer Little Huskies for grades 3-5 and Development for grades 6-8.

Skating

Master one of the most artful and athletic ice sports. Featuring a figure skating program for all ages and a learn-to-skate camp for grades K-5, we have opportunities for everyone.

Soccer

Michigan Tech’s Soccer Skills Camp is designed to teach fundamental playing skills to younger players. Open to grades K-8.

Tennis

The Michigan Tech Tennis camp at Gates Tennis Center offers a balance of instruction, competition, and tactical skill building to take your game to the next level.

Volleyball

Develop your serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, and digging skills with tips and pointers from the Michigan Tech volleyball coaching staff and team players. Choose from Little Huskies for grades 2-6, All Skills Grades 7-9 or All Skills Grades 10-12.
