Performance Management Reminder

It’s hard to believe that we are already 4 months into the annual Performance Management cycle, and as February begins, we wanted to take a moment to pass along a few friendly reminders regarding the Performance Management Process.

1)            Establish and Record Goals

If you have not done so already, meet with your employee(s) to discuss and establish performance goals and record those on the Performance Management Form .  Goal setting is an important first step in the performance management process.  The ability to assess performance is greatly enhanced when there are performance goals in place to evaluate.  Well-defined goals provide both employees and managers with a roadmap to focus their daily efforts.

2)            Schedule Mid-Year Reviews

Schedule a formal check-in with your employee(s) to take place in March or April.  In addition to timely feedback and coaching throughout the year, a Mid-Year Review is a key component of the Performance Management Process.  This meeting will allow you to have a two-way discussion about the status of the goals and development plan to date, and allow you to make any necessary modifications as you prepare for the remainder of the year.

Taking care of these steps now will ensure your year-end review will go smoothly.

It’s tax time again and where can I get my W-2’s, you ask?

Employees can consent now to receive an electronic W-2 form

Michigan Tech employees can consent to receive an electronic copy of their 2014 Form W-2 instead of a mailed paper copy.

If you have already consented to receive an electronic Form W-2 in the past, your selection is still in effect and you do not need to take any action to receive your Form W-2 electronically.

To consent to receive your Form W-2 electronically, log in to Banweb (www.banweb.mtu.edu) and click the Employees box, then Tax Forms, and then

Select Electronic W-2 Consent. Follow the prompt to provide electronic W-2 consent.

If you consent to receive your Form W-2 electronically, your 2014 Form W-2 will be available on Banweb on or before January 23, 2015. A reminder e-mail will be sent at that time.

By choosing the electronic Form W-2, employees will:

  • Avoid having sensitive W-2 information delivered via U.S. mail.
  • Earlier access to the Form W-2.
  • Access can be attained anywhere there is internet access.
  • Help reduce the use of natural resources associated with large-scale printing and mailing, and reduce postage costs.

Alternatively, all paper Form W-2s will be mailed by January 30, 2015 to employees who do not elect to receive their Form W-2 electronically. To ensure prompt delivery by the U.S. Postal Service, a current mailing address must be correct and on file.

To view/update your current mailing address, log in to Banweb and click the Personal Information box, then Update Address(es) and Phone(s).  Mailed Form W-2 will be sent to the W2 address within Banweb.  If a W-2 address does not exist, the Form W-2 will be sent to the Mailing address on file.

HR Goes Casual for a Cause

If you stop by Michigan Tech Human Resources (HR) today, you will notice staff dressed in casual attire.  HR has decided to schedule one non-Friday day per month for it’s employees to dress casually. HR employees must donate a minimum of $1.00 to participate, with all collected donations to benefit the American Cancer Society.

We would like to thank you for understanding our philanthropic participation.
