Turbo Fast Fix Workshop this Saturday

Interested in Turbo Kick, but afraid you won’t be able to keep up because you don’t know the moves? Then you should come to the Turbo Fast Fix Workshop this Saturday, February 7!

This workshop will focus on the kickboxing techniques and drills used in the Turbo Kick class. It’s difficult to learn proper form in Turbo Kick, because the choreography moves so quickly. Join us this Saturday to learn proper form and greatly increase the quality of your workout! Turbo Kick requires no previous kickboxing experience or equipment, and all fitness levels are welcome.

Class time is 12:00-12:50pm in the SDC Studio. Cost to attend is $7.

Register Now for the McKay 3-on-3 Hockey Tournament!

Registration is now open for the 17th Annual Randy McKay 3-on-3 Hockey Tournament.

The tournament will be held April 2-5, 2015, at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. This year’s divisions are: Developing Mites (NEW!), Mites, Squirt House, Squirt Travel, PeeWee House, PeeWee Travel, Bantam, High School/Midget, Men’s Open and Women’s Open.

The tournament is a great time for competition and honing skills, accommodating all age groups and skill levels. The 3-on-3* is a unique brand of hockey. Play runs concurrently on each half of the ice surface (about 100 feet by 85 feet), which allows for quick games and fast action. *The Developing Mites division will play 4-on-4 without a goalie.

Early bird pricing (through February 20) is $180 per team and $25 per goaltender. After February 20, the cost is $200 for teams and $30 per goalie. Deadline to register is March 20.

Last Chance to Register for Lifeguarding Class!

Earn your American Red Cross Certification in a 6-day training course taught at the Michigan Tech SDC Pool. Certification includes Lifeguard and CPR certification and all training materials. All participants must be 15 years of age or older by February 11, 2015 (documentation required), be able to swim 300 yards without stopping and tread water with legs only for 2 minutes. Class size is limited. Registration ends Friday, February 6.

Learn to Skate & Hockey Fundamentals Start February 14

The last spring session of Learn to Skate and Fundamentals of Hockey Skating will begin Saturday, February 14.

The Learn to Skate program offers fun, challenging, and rewarding beginning skating classes for all ages and abilities. Students learn at their own level with others in their age group; classes are available for preschool (3­–5 years, also known as the Snowplow Sam Program) and Basic Skills Levels 1–8 (6 years and up). Includes both a 25-minute lesson and up to 1.5 hours of practice.

In Fundamentals of Hockey Skating, skaters learn how to maneuver faster and be more agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques are the primary focus of the levels. All elements are taught without a puck. Skaters learn the necessary fundamentals to be successful in game situations. Open to skaters 3 and up, no skating experience necessary.

Belly Dance for Fitness Sampler – Come see what it’s all about! Learn to shake, shimmy and roll in this energetic cabaret-style class. Saturday, January 31, 12:00-12:50 p.m. in the SDC Studio. Cost is $7.

Yoga for Cross Country Skiers – A special workshop focusing on stretching and strengthening the muscles used most in cross country skiing. A perfect way to end a ski or start a relaxing weekend. Sunday, February 1, 6:00-7:15 p.m. in the SDC Studio. Cost is $10.

Michigan Tech Dance Team Youth Clinic & Game Performance

The Michigan Tech Dance Team will be hosting a youth clinic Sunday, January 25, from 3:00-6:00pm in the SDC Studio for boys and girls, Pre-K through 8th grade. Participants will warm-up, stretch, and learn across the floor routines as well as an entire dance routine to be performed at halftime of the Michigan Tech Women’s Basketball Game against Lake Superior State on Saturday, January 31!

Dancers of all skill levels are welcome. Cost to participate is $25/child, $20/sibling (covers clinic & game performance; parents must purchase admission to game). Registration is at the SDC Ticket Office or by calling 487-2073.
