American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Blended Learning Course

LAST CHANCE!

Register now for the next American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification January 4-7 at the Michigan Tech SDC Pool.

This four-day intensive training course includes Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications and all training materials.

All participants must be 15 years of age or older by the first date of the course (documentation required). Required water skills include the ability to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes, and complete a timed event in which participants retrieve a 10-pound brick from a depth of 7-10 feet and swim 20 yards with the object.

Online training prerequisites must be completed by the first day of classroom instruction. The instructor will contact class participants with online course information and directions. Class size is limited.

WIBIT Wednesday November 29 at the SDC Pool

It’s WIBIT Wednesday! MTU students, SDC Access Pass holders (minimum one-month), and WIBIT Wednesday Pass holders come make a splash with our inflatable pool obstacle course called the WIBIT!

  • TODAY! Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 5-8 p.m. — Step/Bridge/Cliff/Slope

Events will be held this fall for current MTU students, SDC Access Pass holders (minimum one-month), and WIBIT Wednesday Pass holders. Test your individual skills on the course or challenge a friend to a race across the obstacles. The course is set up in the deep water and requires users to be able to pass our swim test. See the WIBIT rules and swim test content on our website for more information.

There are many different pieces of the WIBIT and each event will have a featured combination. Potential featured pieces include:

  • The Step — This piece allows users to climb up onto the course.
  • The Base — Users must make their way across a horizontal surface. Be careful how fast you move, as it can get slippery!
  • The Cliff — Users must navigate either side of a slope using the handles and their balancing skills.
  • V-Connect — Users must use limited footing space to navigate across the horizontal structure.
  • The Bridge — Users must navigate up and over an arched structure without falling through.
  • The Slope — Users must climb up a six-foot wall that leads to a slide into the pool water below!

Additional HuskiesFit Classes Added!

HuskiesFit Programs is proud to announce the addition of the following classes to our lineup!

  • Ballet Barre –  Experience the rejuvenating world of barre, a fusion of the grace of ballet and the fun energy of cardio fitness.
  • Belly Dance –  Arabic and international music and dance moves combine to create a fun fitness routine that offers a great cardiovascular workout.
  • Foam Roll Restorative Yoga –  Great for athletes and people with tight sore muscles from their job, etc.!
  • Power Vinyasa Flow Yoga –  Power flow linked with breath at a faster pace than traditional vinyasa.
  • Sunrise Flow Yoga –  Having your breath paired with poses, let go of stress as you stay in the moment finding strength, balance, and flexibility.

The above classes are free to SDC access holders (minimum 1 month) and included in the HuskiesFit Ultimate Punch Card. Day passes are also available for $10.

5-Day Hybrid Wilderness First Responder Course January 1-5, 2024

The Outdoor Adventure Program is hosting a 5-Day Hybrid Wilderness First Responder course January 1-5, 2024 at Michigan Tech. Must be 18 or older. Class size is limited.

“Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor educators, guides, SAR team members, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical, including all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. The Hybrid 5-day format is for individuals and sponsors with less time available for on-site training and requires 30 hours of pre-course preparation. Students must register at least 3 weeks before the course date. All students must complete all pre-course e-learning prior to arrival on course.

Indoor Range Bullseye Shooting League

Michigan Tech Indoor Range Bullseye Shooting League allows for a great time shooting with friends and family with just a little competition mixed in. Ten sessions will be held on Sundays from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Rules are simple, and you can practice during the range posted Public times. All scoring targets will be shot in one continuous string of fire. You may shoot as an individual, with a 2-man team, or both. Open to MTU students and the general public.

Special Requirements

  • Minimum age 10 years old. Adult supervision is required for all range users under the age of 18.
  • You may use any handgun you want with any sighting system.
  • All shooting will start from low ready. NO DRAWING FROM A HOLSTER.
  • Shooters may choose to shoot one or two-handed.
  • Eye and ear protection

General Public  – Included in the $140 Fall 2023 Semester Range PassNot a separate program registration.

(1) To sign up as an individual or your 2-Man Team, contact Jeff Stroud at jsstroud@mtu.edu.

(2) Payment for the semester range pass can be made online or at SDC Ticket Office. Pick up the semester pass from the Ticket Office before going to the Range. The customer is responsible for holding on to the pass for the remainder of the semester.

Registration opens September 7, 2023, at 8:00 am.
