Husky Health Updated Website

Check out the Husky Health website for updated information including slides from the Husky Health forums and links to webinars and fitness programs that count toward the Husky Health incentive. 

Husky Health is free, voluntary, and offers benefits-eligible Michigan Tech employees more choice and flexibility with their wellness incentives. Complete all three options by September 30, 2019, and earn up to $450. Several payout options are available.

Option 1: Earn $200
Get a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Health Assessment and an annual physical.

Option 2: Earn up to $150
Complete an approved health program or screening.

Option 3: Earn up to $100
Do an approved physical activity or nutrition challenge, event, or program.

As of Jan. 1, HuskyPAW, SWEAT, TechFit and T2 became one program—Husky Health. Husky Health is free, voluntary and offers benefits-eligible Michigan Tech employees more choice and flexibility with their wellness incentives.

All About Sleep Lunch & Learn Well Attended

Jason Carter, associate vice president for research and an expert in sleep and sleep disorders, discussed the latest science behind the importance of good sleep hygiene.

Faculty, staff, students, and local community members learned about the ways lack of quality sleep can affect a person’s blood pressure and lead to hypertension, and how to create a bedtime ritual to promote deep sleep. Weight Watchers at Work Coming Soon

Register here for the 12-week Weight Watchers at Work session, which begins Wednesday, March 6 in the MUB; 11:30 a.m. for weigh-in and completion of paperwork and 12:00 p.m. for the meeting.

Open to employees and retirees, participants must register online by Wednesday, February 27.

The fee for this 12-week session is $138.00 per participant and includes free access to Weight Watcher’s premium “Online Plus” website.

Registrations will no longer be done on site—all registrations must be completed online. You will have the option of paying with a credit/debit card or TechFit. If using TechFit, choose “yes” for “Payroll Deduct”.

Flexible Spending Account money (FSA) is not accepted as a method of payment. The WW Monthly Pass is not accepted in At Work. Credit/debit cards or bank accounts will not be billed until a minimum of 15 participants have registered for the meeting.

Husky Health Forums

Employee Wellness will host two informational forums on Husky Health, our new wellness incentive program. The times and dates are listed below. Release time will be provided to attend a Husky Health Forum. Benefits-eligible faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.

  • Feb. 27: 1-1:30PM in MUB Ballroom B
  • Feb. 28: 10-10:30AM in MUB Ballroom A2

Dr. Jason Carter, expert in sleep and sleep disorders, will discuss the latest science behind the importance of good sleep hygiene. Dr. Carter is the associate vice president for research and professor, Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology.

Naturally Slim Begins Soon

Learn how to lose weight and improve your health while eating the foods you love. Employee Wellness is offering active, benefits-eligible employees a behavioral weight loss program called Naturally Slim.

The program is delivered online to your smartphone or computer and doesn’t include starving, counting calories, eating diet food or punishing yourself in the gym.  Instead, we’ll teach you how to eat your favorite foods while losing weight, gaining energy and reducing your risk of getting a serious condition, like diabetes or heart disease.

Space is limited. Apply between January 28 – February 8, 2019. This program starts February 25, 2019.

Shredded Cheese and Dry Shampoo: Humor and Hacks of Working Motherhood

 

Join us for a Lunch & Learn presentation with Shannon Rinkinen and Jen Wall.  Work-life balance can feel like a moving target for working mothers.  In this session, we’ll share stories and ideas both humorous and helpful to bring some sanity Monday through Friday.

Bodywork for Relaxation Lunch & Learn Well Attended

 

 

Karen Hoyem, Body Therapy for All, gave a presentation to faculty, staff, students, and community members on the benefits of CranialSacral Therapy and Touch for Health.  Both support relaxation and healing.

The audience was treated to a demonstration as well as self-help techniques to use in times of stress.  Congratulations to Cindy Asiala, the winner of a 1-hr session with Karen.
