Pushpa Murthy, dean of the graduate school, has been appointed to the Graduate Education Advisory Board of the American Chemical Society (ACS) for a three-year term.

The ACS is the world’s largest scientific society with more than 150,000 members. It provides leadership and guidance on the education of chemists at all levels, including the undergraduate and graduate levels. The mission of the Graduate Education Advisory Board is to advise the ACS on matters related to graduate education and postdoctoral training. As part of this mission, the Board will be developing a response to the Graduate STEM Education for the 21st Century report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (2018).

This report makes recommendations about how graduate education should respond to the continuing evolution of STEM disciplines and interdisciplinary research so that students are well prepared for the research workforce of the 21st century.
