Intersectionality is a term used to describe the ways in which people’s social identities overlap and impact their access to resources. Understanding how identities overlap is critical to ensuring that programming and policy designed to promote equity truly achieve their goal.
Time magazine published an interview this week with Kimberle Crenshaw, a law professor who coined the intersectionality term nearly 30 years ago. The interview is a quick read and can encourage each of us to think about the importance of intersectionality in addressing inequalities at Michigan Tech.
