More than 1000 students in Enterprise and Senior Design showcased their work last Thursday at Design Expo and competed for awards. A panel of judges, made up of distinguished corporate representatives and Michigan Tech staff and faculty members, critiqued the projects. The College of Engineering and the Pavlis Honors College is pleased to announce the following winners.

Black&Veatch Building a World of Difference® Student Design Awards:

Senior Design Awards (based on poster)

1st place: BME – Enhanced Measurement and Analysis of Gait Disturbances – Aspirus

2nd place: MSE – High Pressure Die Casting Vent Optimization – Mercury Marine

3rd place: BME – Customizing Transcatheter Nitinol Stents for Treatment of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome in Infants – Spectrum Health

Senior Design Honorable Mention

ME-EM – Improved Inline Component Cleaning System – MacLean-Fogg

ME-EM – Snowmobile Chassis Magnesium Component Design – Polaris

BME – Blubber-Only Implantable Satellite Tracking Device for Humpback Whales

2016 Beautiful Solutions Competition

The Beautiful Solutions Competition is a great launching point for Michigan Tech Senior Design teams who are eager to start their own business.  Solidworks and Venture.co began the competition to help students build the designs of tomorrow. Beautiful Solutions is seeking highly motivated, proactive leaders that are interested in launching their own startup, but may not know where to begin. This competition is open to undergraduate senior design teams with original designs that are ready to start a business. Applicants will compete for $20,000 in seed funding and in-kind prizes. In order to apply, you must first build a profile on Designbook. Applications will be accepted through April 29th.

Registration for Design Expo 2016 is Now Open!

Design Expo 2016 will be held in the MUB Ballroom on Thursday, April 14th. Please save the date!

Design Expo highlights hands-on, discovery-based learning at Michigan Tech. More than 600 students on Enterprise and Senior Design teams showcase their work and compete for awards. A panel of judges, made up of distinguished corporate representatives and Michigan Tech staff and faculty members, critique the projects. Many team projects are sponsored by industry, which allows students to gain valuable experience through competition, as well as direct exposure to real industrial problems. Design Expo is co-hosted by the College of Engineering and the Pavlis Honors College.

Registration is now open for Senior Design and Enterprise teams. Student teams should visit the Design Expo website to register before Monday, February 1st.
